“Cerebrovascular reserve measurements in sickle cell disease”

“Impaired cerebrovascular reserve (CVR) in sickle cell disease is thought to arise from cerebrovascular pathology. CVR can be measured by inducing vasodilation with Acetazolamide and measuring perfusion -with arterial spin labelling (ASL) and other blood measurements with MRI. Silent cerebral infarcts are a characteristic feature of Sickle Cell Disease and the aim of this project is to assess whether these, and other vascular markers might be correlated with impaired cerebrovascular reserve.”
